On 27th October three of our Business students were shortlisted from hundreds of students across the UAE after a grueling online preliminary Quiz for the Final Round of Brain Sim 2016.

The team representing the  Winchester school  consisted  of the following  3 participants

  • Muhammad Danial
  • Murtaza Salman Abedin
  • Wing Yee Chan

Brain Sim Challenge is  one of the biggest inter-school competitions in UAE which challenges the student’s decision making ability in a real time computer simulated business scenario. In the Business simulation students had to make a decision on pricing ,advertising , marketing and allocation of resources and investment on the virtual business entity presented to them .The objective of the business is to achieve the maximum profitability .

After a brief launch and introduction by Prof Arindam Banerjee, Director Admissions the teams were divided into two groups . In the First Round our school participated in the Team Building games and Wing’s team won the Round . In the post -lunch session they participated in the Live simulation Game which was up linked to the Harvard Business school .Between 12 pm and 2pm there was an excellent  Happiness workshop for the teachers and counselors by Prof Christopher.

Overall the experience was an immensely hands-on and stimulating one for the students . There were 33 participating schools and the experience of negotiating with the other teams to gain maximum points helped the students understand the principles of Game theory and behavioral economics in action . They learnt how collusive oligopolies work and why cartels break down . The students were awarded with Participation Certificates and it was creditable that they had been  among the privileged shortlisted few who got an opportunity to be a part of the final event.

Feedback :  “There were a lot of Economics rather then Business concepts involved ” , said Murtaza and Danial of Year 12  .

” The BRAIN SIM Challenge was far tougher and more competitive than the Heriot Watt Business Challenge that we were a Part of last year”, said Wing of Year 13 .
